Thankfully we’ve had a lot of rain in Charleston this
summer. I say this because, for me, the
rain is much easier to take than the heat.
There are countless reasons why so much rain isn’t good, but for me, in
a day to day way, I like it.
A kitten I had for a year died this past August. Just up and dropped a couple days before Labor Day. He was always a little bit
sickly, having been a true alley cat, or alley kitty, so his passing, although
surprising at the time, was not so unexpected.
I wrote that song that’s on my music page about him, “Broken
and Blue.” It was an amazing song and
fell out of me very quickly. It also completely
transmuted my grief.
I have enjoyed many a sad song in my life. I have enjoyed angry songs and chaotic
songs. I realize they are not peaceful
or church music, but still they are healing to me. They let me express and purge myself of the
hurt I feel inside.
